WCC 2011 - Did someone say Webcast?

I am really starting to enjoy this whole webcasting process! After a few NRL weekends and now into our second day here things are starting to come together.

Over 500 of you tuned in to watch the 3 games yesterday! Thanks for tuning in and I hope you enjoy the other games all week.

Now I understand that the time different between Finland and Canada is causing some of these broadcasts to be during your prime sleeping hours, but this event doesn't happen every year so be sure to tune in!

This is some great ringette, you are sure to see dozens of outstanding plays in each game.

If that is not enough for you then I urge you to tune in to watch the outstanding camera work by Peter Steele not only is he providing the camera work for the webcast feed, but he is also tagging the game in dartfish for both canadian teams all while snapping up a few action shot with his fancy camera (Laynski has camera envy).

2011WCC - It's all about preparation... (Day 2, Blog #1)

The Lightning are off to an early start on day 2 of the WCC. They are up in the first game against USK (Sweden) at 10 am local time here in Turku - thats 3am local time for you fans back in Richmond Hill!

So it was an early start for the Lanski-Franski duo as we hopped on the 8am bus with the Bolts this morning. Our group was the first to arrive at the rink this morning... most of the lights were still off and the press box wasn't unlocked yet.

The athletes and coaching staff have wasted no time. As they arrived the athletes made their way to the dressing room and then out for a run (it is still dark outside here!), then broke out into individual pre-game routines. The coaching staff wasted no time to review footage from yesterday's game and worked out the game plan for this game.

The work, preparation and thinking that goes into each one of these games became very evident this morning.

As fans of the game we don't always sees everything that goes into it. Everybody has a role to play and at this level every extra little bit counts.

I am looking forward to this next match-up!

WCC 2011 - City Hall, Old City Hall and Town Hall...

It took multiple flights and a variety of modes of transportation to get us all here - but we made it to Turku Finland!

The Turbos, the Lightning, staff members and fans are all here and ready to rock this event.

Today started with the Opening Ceremony - set to start at 9:30am at City Hall (at least that is what the information we got said) Laynki and I walked over to City Hall with the members of the Tubos team... and this is where the adventure begins:

9:20 - We arrive at City Hall only to be greeted by members of the staff that have no idea what we are talking about. I guess we are at the wrong location!

9:23 - Salla (from Ringette Finland) walks by and instructs us to follow her to the venue - turns out it is at Old City Hall (or at least that is what we think)

9:27 - We seem to have lost Salla - she was walking ahead of us and then we lost her!!

9:29 - We ask a random people on the street to direct us to Old City Hall... only to be sent to different buildings every time - and all of them locked!

9:39 - Tried to call Salla from one of our cell phones... but we never go through. Is there some sort of trick to dialing in this country?

9:49 - Finally we spot someone in the Red Host committee jacket and we are directed to the right building... up the street, 5 buildings down.

For the record - The building was called Old Town Hall - NOT City Hall...

So I guess you could say that we arrived to the party.

Our apologies go out to the organizer of the event and all the participants that had to wait for us. I have taken a funny tone to sharing this adventure, but in the grand scheme of event organization I know how much of an inconvenience this may have caused.

So what did we learn from this adventure?

- check the map before we leave for any other event locations.

- confirm the exact name of the location

- learn how to dial a Finish number from a Canadian cell phone.

Today the Richmond Hill Lightning take on Lapinlahden Luistin-89 and the Turbos take on Luvian Kiekko - 82.

2011 CRC - Will there be mini-games?

Jane Casson, president of Ringette Canada, arrived this morning. Now I must admit that Jane’s presence is always wonderful – but the reason I bring this up is that she also brought chocolate croissants from a local bakery near her house called Con Gusto. They were delicious! Laynski and I wasted no time devouring them early this morning. A few other staff members opted to wait until later in the day for theirs... but it seems they waited too long. You snooze you lose.

Onto event related thoughts.

Let’s talk mini games. It is totally possible that we will see mini games in the U16 and u19 division. Depending on what happens in the games tomorrow morning... fans might be treated to mini-game action tomorrow! Stressful for the athletes to play in... but incredibly exciting for all of us in the stands.

The fight for a spot in the medal round is tight in all divisions. Based on the today’s games in the NRL we can truly say that the championship is up for grabs by all teams in the championship round.

Who will make it to the finals? Not many games left before we can crown national champs.

Tomorrow we will see the Semi-finals in which the bronze medal will be awarded and the wining team will move on to the finals set to take place on Saturday.

Today we had over 150 students from Glen Morris Public School and North Ward School attend the U19 Ontario vs Québec game. These groups were treated an outstanding game. The game ended with an overtime goal by Kaylee Whitcroft to give Ontario the win.

Students from North Ward School took part in our media program and interviewed the overtime goal scorer and winning goalkeeper. Both Whitcroft and Alana Raymond also shared their thoughts on the game during a video interview.

Students from Glen Morris Public School were present for the post game interview with Kyrie Love following The Ice’s win over top-seeded Prairie Fire. Love put one past the Fire goalkeeper with under two minutes left in regulation time. An exciting finish!

The games tomorrow in all divisions will mean a lot. Who moves on will be decided based on tomorrow morning’s games. The evening will feature the Bronze medal games (which I remind you will be webcast.)

CCR 2011 - Allons nous avoir des mini-parties?

Jane Casson, la présidente de Ringuette Canada, est arrive aujourd’hui! Sa présence est toujours appréciée, mais aujourd’hui ce fut encore plus spécial. Elle a elle est arrivée avec une boîte de croissants au chocolat d’une boulangerie près de chez eux. DÉLICIEUX! Laynski et moi n’avons pas perdu de temps et avons dévoré les nôtres ce matin. D’autres membres du personnel de RC on choisi d’attendre à plus tard. Mais il semblerait que quelqu’un les a mangés avant eux! Haha

Et maintenant… de retour aux infos de l’événement :

Les mini-parties! Il y a possibilité d’en avoir demain! C’est toujours intéressant de voir des mini-parties! Stressant pour les athlètes et les entraîneurs…. Mais excitant à voir pour les partisans dans les estrades!

Les parties de demain matin sont d’une grande importance – elles peuvent vouloir dire la différence entre jouer pour une médaille et la fin du tournoi pour certaines équipes. Nous allons voir des parties intenses demain matin c’est certain!

Aujourd’hui nous avions 150 élèves dans les estrades pour la partie U19 entre Québec et Ontario. Les élèves des écoles Glen Morris Public School et North Ward School on eu toute une partie. En plus voir la fin de la partie en Ottawa Ice et Prairie Fire, la partie ON vs QC s’est rendu en prolongation.

En plus d’assister aux parties, les élèves de North Ward School ont participé à notre programme média. Nos élèves-journalistes ont fait des entrevues avec des athlètes suite à la partie afin de pouvoir compléter leurs articles.

2011 CRC - And the games continue...

Before I get into the full details about today... I must report that Emily has yet to make a mistake on the results charts. I am beginning to think that this is not a common problem... it’s just causes problems for me. Hmm... maybe if I practice, in 10 years (or 10 000 hours) I will master that skill. Shameless LTAD plug right there!

I don’t usually get the chance to watch full games at this event... but today I was lucky enough to catch the NRL game between Montreal and Edmonton. After 1 period of play the WAM! was down by 2 goals... but after an exciting 2 goals in the first minute of the second period they turned the game around and pulled off the win. Post game interviews with Ashley Peters and Dani Holliday (NRL Rookie of the Year nominee) have been posted on our YouTube.

Following the interview I was also treated to a few athletes and their team cheer... Chelsea Stone, Peters and Holliday performed there ‘Hey GO Blue’ cheer. A few of their teammates are also featured in this clip... any way you can find to get on camera right ladies.

It’s fun to be around these athletes. They bring their A game on the ice, they are so intense and determined to perform, But off the ice they have a great time. That’s what sport is truly about. The cheers, smiles and good times will always be there, regardless of the level of play.

I also had the chance to interview athletes from the undefeated Québec U19 team. Élizabeth Audette-Bourdeau and Jade Abboud talk about their experience at this event and offer advice to young athletes.

Day 3 wraps up the NRL round robin play. After today teams will move on to either the championship or consolation round. In one of the pools it came down to the final game of the day. Montreal vs Prairie Fire. If Montreal won, this would mean mini-games in the morning. If Montreal lost they were relegated to the consolation pool.

Turns out that... Prairie Fire controlled the last game of the day on Hespler 2, Montreal came back to be within one but in the end the Fire came out with the win. This means that Richmond Hill does not have to get up early to play in the 8am mini-game.

The NRL championship pool will feature: Turbos, WAM!,The Ice, RATH, Prairie Fire and the Lightning. The consolation pool will feature: Mission, Attack, Cyclones and Devils.

I am sure you have all been following the live stats over the course of the event. Thanks to a wonderful group of volunteers the stats are entered into the system seconds after goals are scored. This is all possible thanks to text messaging. The host committee has come up with quite a system here – and they have truly mastered it. (Don’t worry I have nothing to do with the stats input – my inability to input the scores on the paper results charts make me ineligible).

It seems we failed to mention an impressive win that took place yesterday. With one second left in regulation, Andrea Ferguson of the Prairie Fire put one past the WAM Goalie to avoid overtime and give her team the coveted 2 points. I guess we should really get out to Galt Arena more often – it seems we forget about those games when comes time to do our daily wrap up. Maybe tomorrow I will head over to Galt... or better yet, is anybody heading out to that rink that could provide me with fun stories to share?

I was unsuccessful in convincing my fellow RC staff to stop at Cold Stone Creamery on the way to the hotel last night. We did however hook into a Wii Party. Turns out Wii Resort translates into hours of hilarious fun – especially after a long day at the arena. Thanks KP and the rest of your crew for the invite.

CCR 2011 - Et les parties continues...

Avant de partager les détails de la journée, je dois commencer par vous faire part du fait qu’Emily reste toujours avec une fiche parfaite à l’égard des tableaux de résultats. Je commence vraiment à penser que ce n’est pas un problème commun, c’est juste moi qui éprouve ce problème. Mais… avec 10 ans ou 10 000 heures de pratique je pourrais arriver à le maîtriser.

Je n’ai pas souvent la chance de voir une partie au complet lors du CCR, mais j’ai eu la chance de voir la partie entre Montréal et Edmonton. Après une période de jeu – le WAM! tirait de l’arrière par deux. Mais ils n’ont eu besoin qu’une minute au début de la 2^e période pour égaliser le pointage… et par la suite la victoire. Suite à la partie j’ai eu la chance de m’entretenir avec Ashley Peters et Dani Holliday (Nommée pour la Recrue de l’année de la LNR).

Suite aux entrevues, leur coéquipières se sont joint à eux pour nous démontrer le cri ‘Hey GO Blue’. C’est plaisant de voir les athlètes hors-glace. Elles sont tellement intense et déterminées lors des parties, mais elles ont tellement de plaisir en équipes. Les cris d’équipe, les bon souvenirs et les sourires sont toujours présent, peu importe la niveau de jeu.

J’ai aussi eu la chance d’interviewer Élizabeth Audette-Bourdeau et Jade Abboud d’équipe Québec U19. Elle partage avec nous leurs expériences au CCR ainsi que des conseilles pour nos jeunes athlètes.

Aujourd’hui marquait la fin du tournoi à la ronde de la LNR. Suite à une partie excitante entre le Prairie Fire et le Mission on peut maintenant conclure qu’il n’y aura pas de mini-parties. La victoire du Fire a fais en sorte que le Lightning passe à la ronde du championnat et que le Mission se retrouve encore une fois dans la ronde de consolation.

Les groupes seront comme suit :

Championnat : Turbos, WAM!, Ice, RATH, Prairie Fire et le Lightning

Consolation : Mission, Attack, Cyclones et Devils.

Avec l’aide de messages textes, les informations passe du marqueur à la centrale des statistique afin d’être ajouté au site. Super comme concept! (Je vous assure que je ne joue aucun rôle dans ce processus. Étant donné mon incapacité de compléter les tableaux (papier) je ne qualifie pas pour jouer un role dans le processus virtuel.

Il semblerait que nous avons oublié de mentionner une victoire spectaculaire hier qui a eu lieu à l’aréna Galt. Avec seulement un seconde au cadran Andrea Ferguson du Prairie Fire a marquer pour donner la victoire aux siennes contre le WAM!. Impressionnant!

J’ai n’ai pas été en mesure de convaincre mes amies de travail d’arrêter au Cold Stone Creamery en route vers l’hôtel hier soir. Par contre nous avons pris part à un ‘party de Wii’. Il semblerait que le jeu Wii Resort = plusieurs heures de divertissement. Surtout lorsque le groupe est fatigué suite à une journée complète à l’aréna. Merci KP et ton groupe pour l’invitation!

2011 CRC – Last minute wins, 349 goals and Cold Stone Creamery

With the start of NRL Round Robin play, all division had a full slate of games today. U16 results. U19 Results. NRL Results. A few upsets, close games and Big Wins!

The NRL Awards finalists were also announced today. Who will claim the top prizes? You’ll have to wait until Saturday night to find out when the winners are announced at the CRC closing ceremony.

As we only had 2 divisions competing yesterday all the action took place at Hespler Arena. With all 3 divisions in action today, some games took place at Galt arena. I have not yet been, but I hear it’s a great arena. One of the oldest functioning rinks! I might have to make my way over there sometime this week – I’ll be sure to snap a few pics for you all.

Hespler was a very busy place today... which means lots of circulation in the Ringette Store. They have great items for sale and fans and athletes are stopping in to buy souvenirs from this event.

For two of our earlier games today, we had 130 7^th grade students come out to cheer on the local athletes competing in this event. It is always great to see new fans see our sport for the first time! Thanks to all the students who came out today!

In my experiences at previous events, I had been given the responsibility of updating the results charts. Let’s just say that I was causing the event to go over budget due to the amount of whiteout I needed because of the mistakes I was making. When this job was handed off to Emily this year I warned her of the difficulties that come with that job. She laughed and proceeded to declare that she was a pro at this and there is no way she would make a mistake. So far she has not needed the white out... but the week is still young! LOL

Fans were treated to more action packed games today. With only 2 days of competition completed teams have combined to score a total of 349 goals! Always exciting for all of us in the stands to see so many goals... and goal celebrations.

One of the most exciting goal celebrations I saw today was the game winning goal for Nova Scotia U16 over Ontario. With minutes left in the game Brittany Melanson scored to give Nova Scotia the lead over Ontario. Here is a clip of her goal and a post-game interview with her and her coach. This was a big win for Nova Scotia – no shortage of excitement amongst the Nova Scotia athletes, fans and coaching staff.

The games here just keep getting better and better. I can’t wait to see tomorrow’s matchups.

On a completely unrelated note... I have been introduced to Cold Stone Creamery. The Tim Hortons that is on our way home from the rink features this ice cream chain. For those who have not yet been introduced to this ice cream you are TOTALLY missing out. It is delicious! Seriously, look up the nearest Cold Stones, it is totally worth the trip! Maybe my Ringette Canada friends will want to stop on the way home again tonight?

CCR 2011 – Victoires de dernière minute, 349 buts et Cold Stone Creamery

Les parties de la division LNR ont débuté aujourd’hui, ce qui veut dire que les 3 divisions étaient en action! Voici les résultats de la journée : U16 résultats. U19 Résultats. LNR Résultats.

Quelques surprises, plusieurs parties serrées et de grandes victoires pour certaines équipes.

De plus, les finalistes des prix de la LNR ont été annoncées ce matin. Qui seront les lauréats? Vous devez attendre à samedi. Ceux-ci seront annoncés lors le la cérémonie de clôture des CCR.

Je n’ai pas eu la chance de me rendre à l’aréna Galt aujourd’hui, mais je peux vous confirmer que l’aréna Hespler était très occupée. Beaucoup de gens dans les estrades et plusieurs se sont dirigés vers le Ringette Store. Que ce soit un partisan, un athlète, un parent, il y a certainement un souvenir de l’événement qui vous plaira.

En plus des partisans réguliers, nous avons eu la visite de 130 élèves de la 7^e année aujourd’hui. Ils sont venus en grand nombre pour encourager les équipes locales. C’est toujours plaisant de voir des gens qui assistent à leur première partie de ringuette. Merci aux élèves qui étaient parmi nous ce matin!

Lors de mes premières expériences au Championnat Canadien, la tâche de compléter les tableaux des résultats était la mienne… mais disons que je coutais trop cher de ‘liquide paper’ à l’organisation. Donc ils ont donné la tâche à quelqu’un d’autre. Étant donné qu’Emily est l’heureuse responsable de ceci cette année, j’ai cru bon de l’aviser des problèmes associés à la tâche. Comme vous pouvez le constater, elle a rit de moi. De plus elle a continué en affirmant qu’elle ne ferait aucunes erreurs de la semaine. HA! Bonne chance! Lol À date elle performe à 100%... mais la semaine est encore jeune.

J’ai fait un calcule rapide et suite à deux journées de compétitions, les équipes ont combiné pour un total de 349 buts! C’est évidement très excitant pour les partisans dans les estrades… et la cause de célébration sur la patinoire.

Une des plus grandes célébrations de la journée a été suite au but gagnant de la partie entre l’Ontario et la Nouvelle-Écosse dans l’U16. Avec quelque minutes en temps réglementaire, Brittany Melanson a compté pour donner la victoire à la Nouvelle-Écosse. Une GRANDE victoire pour la province de l’Atlantique. C’est plutôt rare de voire NS vaincre ON. Vous n’avez qu’à voir le but et l’entrevue avec Brittany et l’entraîneur en chef de l’équipe pour voir la joie éprouvée par l’équipe.

Plus on avance, plus les parties deviennent de plus en plus intense. J’ai hâte de voir ce que demain apportera.

Sur une note n’ayant pas vraiment rapport avec la compétition… j’ai fait la découverte de Cold Stone Creamery. TROP BON!!! Si vous avez jamais fais la connaissance de leur crème glacée, je vous suggère fortement de faire la recherche et trouvé l’emplacement la plus près de chez vous. Sa en vaut la peine! Hmmm peut être mes amies de travail seront d’accord d’y arrêter encore ce soir en route vers l’hotel…

2011 CRC - Back in the game

Its official, the 2011 Tim Hortons Candian Ringette Championships have started!

It all started yesterday... Teams practiced, attended the coaches meeting and the athlete forum. Then they were off to the opening ceremony.

I had the privilege to lead the athlete forum again this year. The 30 athletes who were in the room were very dynamic, energetic and ready to share their thoughts. A lot of great discussion, ideas and questions came up during this year’s forum. Things to look for in the coming months: the formation of an athletes’ council, Q&A videos on ringette specific topics, activity on our social media networks from our athletes. Stay tuned!

I also can’t mention our athletes without once again pointing out that they are the BEST. All who attended the forum this year were phenomenal people. Our younger generations have outstanding role models to look up to.

The opening ceremony was.... short. Coming in at just under 25 minutes, it has to be the shortest opening ceremony in the history of this event.

It was great to see all of the athletes come together in one room. The opening ceremony is always a great event; you can feel the excitement and the energy in the room. There is certainly no shortage of smiles on the athletes faces.

This year I got to see that first hand. As I was co-hosting the event with @ChaseVanExel that meant I was up on the stage... all eyes and smiles were on us. (Sidenote – @ChaseVanExel totally needs to get his followers up... as mentioned at opening he only has 2! Help a guy out will you.)

Although our stint on stage was short, it was enjoyable and we are looking forward to the closing ceremony. One thing is certain, the closing will most certainly last longer... at least 27 minutes... LOL

Today the teams hit the ice!

The athletes put on a great show on day 1. Fans were treated to fast paced games all day. The speed of this game never ceases to amaze me.

The success of the host teams was the talk of the rink for the day.

The U16 team is currently 2-0. They came from behind to pull off their second win of day. Down by one goal against Alberta, Cambridge scored with 20 seconds left on the clock to tie it up with a goal by Shaelyn Reaman (her third of the game). Expecting to see this game go into overtime, they then surprised everybody and scored a game wining goal 16 seconds later. Chantal Gauthier put one passed the AB goalie with four seconds left on the clock.

The host U19 team are also a team to talk about today. With Jennifer Gabel leading her team with two goals to a 2-1 victory over Ontario, they are off to a great start in this full round robin event.

So after one day of competition... who do you think is going to take home the gold? Still 5 more days to go before the trophies find a new home.

CCR 2011 - C’est le retour au jeu!

Nous voilà rendu au championnat canadien de Tim Hortons de 2011 à Cambridge.

Les activités ont débuté hier. Les équipes ont pratiqué, participé à la colloque des athlètes et à la réunion des entraîneurs. Ensuite ce fut le temps pour la cérémonie d’ouverture.

Ce fut un privilège pour moi d’animer la colloque des athlètes cette année. Les 30 athlètes présentes étaient excellentes! Il y a eu des bonnes discussions, des nouvelles idées partagées et d’excellentes questions. À venir dans les mois suivants : la formation d’un conseil des athlètes, des vidéo questions réponses au sujet de la ringuette et la participation de nos athlète à nos divers réseaux sociaux.

Je dois aussi partager avec vous que je crois que nous avons les meilleures athlètes! Elles ont non-seulement un talent exceptionnel mais, elles sont aussi des super bonnes personnes. Nous sommes vraiment choyez, nous athlètes sont d’excellentes idoles pour nos jeunes participants.

Passons maintenant à la cérémonie d’ouverture. Disons que c’était très… pas très long. Avec un temps total de 25 minutes, c’est certainement la cérémonie la plus courte dans l’histoire de cet événement.

J’ai eu la chance de voir la cérémonie d’un angle différent cette année. J’ai animé la soirée avec @ChaseVanExel. C’était excellent de voir tous le visage, on pouvait reconnaitre les émotions de joie, d’intensité et de nervosité dans la salle.

Même si notre séjour sur la scène a été très court, nous avons vraiment aimé l’expérience. Nous avons hâte d’animer la cérémonie de clôture. J’anticipe que celle-ci soit d’un plus longue durée… au moins 27 minutes. LOL

Les parties ont débuté tôt ce matin. Nous avons vraiment été choyez, les athlètes on vraiment donné une bon ‘show’ aux spectateurs. La vitesse des parties ne cesse jamais de m’épater.

La nouvelle de la journée a vraiment été le succès des équipes hôtesses.

Dans la catégorie U16 l’équipe hôtesse a présentement une fiche parfaite de 2-0. Leur deuxième victoire a été un peu plus difficile. Tirant de l’arrière en fin de deuxième, Shaelyn Reaman a compté sont 3e but de la partie avec seulement 20 seconde restant au cadran pour égaliser le score contre l’Alberta. Évidement la partie c’est retrouvée en prolongation… non, un instant! Cambridge récupère l’anneau rapidement et n’a besoin que 16 seconde pour compter un but. Avec seulement 4 secondes restantes au tableau, Chantal Gauthier a déjoué la gardienne pour donner la victoire à son équipe.

L’équipe de Cambridge U19 a aussi donné raison de parler d’elle. Avec une grande victoire inattendue contre l’Ontario, l’équipe part du bon pied dans ce tournoi à la ronde. Jennifer Gabel a pris charge des seines lors de la première partie avec deux buts dans leur victoire de 2-1 plus tôt aujourd’hui.

Après une seule journée de compétition, j’en suis certaine qu’il y en a qui ont déjà commencé a faire leur prédictions. Qui remportera les trophées?... encore 5 autres journées avant de couronner les championnes.

Canada Games - Ontario is Golden

The big day has arrived and Cole Harbour Place was a packed house as fans came early to make sure they got in to see the best of the best compete for ringette gold. Quebec and Saskatchewan squared off for bronze at 2 pm and after an intense 40 minutes of play, Quebec won 6-5 to claim bronze. Then came the big game and defending CWG champions Team Ontario beat Alberta 8-7 in overtime. Quite possibly the most exciting ringette game I have ever seen. Samantha Nosal (St. Clements) scored the overtime winner. Interestingly enough, it was Samantha’s birthday today. Pretty sweet birthday present.

I think I mentioned this yesterday, but seriously, every single athlete at these games should be proud of their performance here this week. These athletes truly make me proud to be involved in this wicked sport.

Our nicknames for the final day are Thelma and Louise. I guess people think Emily and I are going to drive off a cliff now that things are done here. On the contrary, this week has been an incredible experience and we are truly honored to have been able to work with such a talented, dedicated and friendly group of people. We really wish we could get everyone together for a massive group hug.

On our final day, we have decided to reciprocate the nickname game and have given Cathy Hebert (who can be seen here in between Bob Patton and Karen Conrod, two other equally stellar volunteers) a nickname. From now on out, Cathy will always be known to us as “Squeaker.” She gets this name because all week we could hear her coming from a mile away with a very distinct sound coming from her shoes. Cathy, thank you for all your help this week. We couldn’t have done it without you and your nickname game has added extra smiles to an already smile-filled week.

Many of the young fans coming to the rink this week are aspiring to be better ringette players. You can tell they are totally stoked to watch the game played at this level and some of them are even meeting their ringette heros. Today we met a fan of a different sort. Abigail and Madeline are here this week and while they are watching ringette, they are keeping a close eye on the officials because they want to be referees when they grow up. They even have a printout with all the officiating signals. How cool is that?

As I eluded to in yesterday’s blog, I have been in heavy negotiations with the zamboni people. I have worked for Ringette Canada for thirteen years and while I have many pictures of me sitting on the zamboni in the back room, I have never been able to convince someone to let me on the ice. Well folks, my life is now complete. Here’s proof of the zamboni love that took place here today. Special shout out and thank you to the dynamic duo of Mike and Todd. Couldn’t have done it without you.

And that folks is a wrap. Off to pack up and possibly enjoy a few beverages to cap off an exciting week. The blog will likely spark back up when we descend on Cambridge for the 2011 Canadian ringette championships at the end of March.

Jeux du Canada - La conclusion: Ontario = OR!

C’est la journée de la grande finale à Cole Harbour Place et encore une fois c’était guichet fermé pour les parties. Les partisans sont arrivés tôt pour voir les meilleures au pays s’affronter pour les médailles. Quebec et Saskatchewan étaient premier pour la médaille de bronze. Après 40 minutes de jeu intense, le Québec a remporté la partie 6-5 pour se mériter la médaille de bronze. Ensuite se fut le tour de l’Ontario et de l’Alberta. For probablement la partie de ringuette la plus intense que j’ai jamais vue. Samantha Nosal (St. Clements) a marqué le but gagnant en prolongation pour donner la victoire à l’équipe qui était les champions en titre des Jeux de 2007. De plus c’était sa fête aujourd’hui. Excellente façon de célébrer.

Je pense avoir mentionné ceci hier, mais je dois encore une fois répéter que toutes les athlètes ici présentes se doivent d’être fières de leurs performances ici au Jeux. Vous êtes des athlètes exceptionnelles et c’est grâce a vous que je suis si fière de faire partie de ce sport extraordinaire.

Nos noms pour cette dernière journée sont Thelma and Louise. Est-ce que les gens pense qu’Emily et mois allons conduire notre voiture en bas d’une falaise. Au contraire mes amis! Ce fut une semaine fantastique et nous sommes honorées d’avoir eu la chance de faire partie des Jeux. Les gens d’ici sont exceptionnels. J’ai le goût de rassembler tous les gens pour une caresse de groupe.

Étant donnée que nous sommes à la dernière journée, nous avons cru bon de donner un surnom à Cathy (Celle qui nous à donné nos noms cette semaine) La voici dans une photo. Elle se retrouve entre Bob Patton et Karen Conrod – deux autres bénévoles superbes! Son nom est ‘Squeaker’. La raison? Toute la semaine on savait qu’elle n’était pas loin car ses souliers faisaient un bruit lorsqu’elle marchait. Cathy, merci pour ton travail tout au long de la semaine. Nous n’aurions pas pu le faire sans toi! De plus, le jeu des surnom a rajouter une dynamique encore plus joyeuse à l’événement.

Nous avons vue plusieurs jeunes athlètes dans les estrades cette semaine rêvant un jour de participer au Jeux. Certaine au même eu la chance de rencontrer leur héro. Mais aujourd’hui ce fut une première. Nous avons rencontré Abigail et Madeline. Oui, elles rêvent un jour de faire partie de Jeux, mais en tant qu’officiels. Elles on même une feuille avec tous les signaux d’arbitre avec elle. C’est super cool!

Comme j’ai mentionné dans mon blogue d’hier, j’étais en négociations sérieuse avec le conducteur de la zamboni. Dans ma carrière de 13 and avec Ringuette Canada, j’ai eu la chance de prendre plusieurs photos assise sur une zamboni en arrière scène. Mais aujourd’hui je peux vous confirmé que ma vie est officiellement complète. Voici la preuve! J’ai eu la chance de conduire la zamboni! un merci spécial à Mike et Todd. Sans vous mon rêve ne se serait jamais réalisé.

Ceci conclu une semaine sans pareille. C’est le temps de faire nos valises et de quitter les Jeux pour laisser la place aux événements de la deuxième semaine. Nous allons sans doute prendre un petit verre pour célébré le succès de la semaine.

Le blogue sera de retour lors des championnats canadiens qui auront lieu à Cambridge à la fin mars.

Canada Games - We're going for Gold!

Another day of exciting games here at Cole Harbour Place and it’s evident that these athletes are leaving it all on the ice in their quest for gold. Alberta remained undefeated this week and beat Quebec 4-3 in a very exciting semi-final today. Ontario then beat Saskatchewan 5-3 in the second semi-final. So now Alberta meets Ontario for gold and Quebec will battle Saskatchewan for bronze. The games tomorrow are going to be very exciting, I can hardly wait!

Regardless of who takes home gold, every team should be downright proud of the games they have played. I have watched a lot of ringette here this week and my take is that ringette is getting better across the board. Competition is much tighter than it has been in the past and this is a good thing for our sport.

First thing this morning we got our nicknames of the day and watched the related video. Today’s names come from a favourite from my childhood - Betty and Wilma. I am Betty and Emily is Wilma. I could totally see us doing the Burger on a Bun song!

It’s obviously been a long and busy week, but the lack of sleep and the tired doesn’t matter. One look at the determination on the faces of these athletes and you can’t help but get an instant energy boost. This is my third Canada Winter Games, I have been to many nationals and worlds, and the excitement of these final crucial games is indescribable.

Big shout out to my pal Emily for all the photos she has been taking. If you haven’t had a chance, check them out. She’s capturing some pretty epic moments here at the games.

Get your game faces people, we’re going for gold.

Jeux du Canada - La ruée vers l'or

Une autre journée de parties excitantes à Cole Harbour Place. C’est évident que les athletes donnent le tout pour le tout dans leur conquête pour la médaille d’or. L’Alberta demeure invaincue avec leur victoire de 4-3 en demi-finale face à l’équipe du Québec. Elles affronteront alors l’Ontario (qui a vaincu la Saskatchewan 5- 3 lors de la 2^e demi-finale) pour l’OR et le Québec devra rencontrer la Saskatchewan pour la bronze. J’ai hâte aux parties de demain. Ça risque d’être excitant et intense!

Peu importe qui remporte les médailles, toutes les équipes ici présentes devraient être fière des parties qu’elles ont disputées. J’ai vue beaucoup de ringuette cette semaine et je peux affirmer que le niveau de compétition à cet événement est incroyable. Les parties sont de plus en plus serrées comparativement aux années précédentes. Un très bon signe pour notre sport.

En arrivant ce matin nous avons belle et bien reçu nos noms de la journée. Aujourd’hui nous sommes Betty et Délima. Et oui un favori de mon enfance. Je suis Betty et Emily est Délima. Je nous imagine chanter cette chanson.

Évidement ce fut une longue semaine, mais le manque de sommeil et la fatigue n’importe pas. Quand je vois l’intensité et la détermination des athlètes je ne peux pas m’empêcher d’avoir un petit ‘boost’ d’énergie. Ceci sont mes 3^e Jeux du Canada, j’ai participé à plusieurs championnats canadiens et mondiales, mais l’atmosphère ici lors des finales est incomparable!

Je dois mentionner Emily et les excellentes photos qu’elle à pris lors des Jeux. Si vous n’avez pas regardé les photos, prenez le temps. Elle a certainement capturé des moments inoubliables.

Vous portez vos couleurs? On s’en va pour l’or demain.

Jeux du Canada - Une abondance de sourires

Bonjour Mercredi! Tu es rempli de ringuette et de beau soleil. Oh que tu es une belle journée.

Il fait très soleil ici à Halifax aujourd’hui, mais il fais FROID! La chanson du jour, celle qu’Emily et moi avons chantée aujourd’hui en marchant de l’auto à l’aréna est celle-ci.

Tandis que nous parlons de musique, notre emplacement de travail est situé à côté d’un salle où se déroulent des classes d’aérobie. Je n’ai pas regarder dans cette salle à date, mais la music me donne l’impression que c’est quelque chose du genre qui se passe : Appuyer.

À tout les jours nous devons traverser un pont pour se rendre à Cole Harbour Place. Un frais de 75cents s’applique. En début de semaine mon sac était remplie de 25cent. Mais plus la semaine avance, plus ils se font rare. Hier soir Emily à du compter des 10 et des 1cent. Je me sentais un peu mal alaise de demander s’ils acceptaient ce genre de change. J’ai l’impression que ceux-ci sont acceptés, mais pas la bienvenue. À mon avis, de l’argent, c’est de l’argent.

Pour ceux qui suivre l’histoire de nos surnoms, aujourd’hui nous sommes Lucy et Ethel. Je suis Lucy et Emily est Ethel. À vous de regarder ce vidéo. Semblerait que c’est ce qui à influencé nos noms de la journée.

Hier soir nous avons arrêté pour souper en route vers l’hôtel et nous avons rencontré le personnel d’équipe Alberta. Je dois noter que c’est grâce à eu que j’ai tous les épinglettes de leur équipe. Je trouve que la collection et l’échange des épinglettes mérite d’être une discipline aux Jeux. C’est quelque chose à voir!

Avez-vous vue nos videos des Jeux à date? En voici un avec Gen Pepper qui est interviewée par Roxanne Lalonde, membre du CA de Ringuette Canada et un autre avec deux jeunes athlètes de ringuette.

À date les parties d’aujourd’hui ont été très excitantes. BC à remporté la partie conte PEI ce qui veux dire qu’elles affronteront l’Alberta ce soir. Saskatchewan à remporté leur partie contre le Manitoba. Une victoire qui à pris certain par surprise. Évidement le Manitoba était déçu de leur défaite – qui fait en sorte qu’elles ne sont plus éligibles pour une médaille. J’avoue que c’est la partie de mon emploi que j’aime le moins, de voir les athlètes qui ont travaillées si fort vivre des défaites.

Les arbitres ont encore beaucoup de plaisir et les partisans aussi. Les plus grands sourires proviennent peut être même de nous.

Canada Games - Smiles all around

Well hello Wednesday! You are so full of exhilarating ringette goodness and combined with beautiful sunshine outside, you are a good day.

Very sunny day, but blistering cold here in Halifax. Today’s musical interlude on the way to the rink included Emily and I belting out this song.

Speaking of music, our boardroom at the rink is right next to an aerobics studio. I have not looked into the studio while these classes are going on, but the sounds coming from that room sort of go like this. This is kind of distracting but it is also very humorous.

Every day on our way to and from the rink, we need to go over a bridge. The toll is 75 cents each way. At the beginning of the week I had lot of quarters in my change purse, but now we are getting down to the small stuff and when we crossed the bridge last night, Emily had counted out a bunch of pennies and dimes. I felt just a bit odd when I asked the attendant if he took pennies (20 of them specifically). He did, but I didn’t get the impression that they are welcomed. Money is money, right?

For those of you have been following along, our nicknames for today are Lucy and Ethel. I am Lucy and Emily is Ethel. We are also told to watch this video, which was the inspiration for today’s nicknames.

Last night we stopped to get some food on the way home from the rink and bumped into the coaching staff from Team Alberta. Who, I might add has graciously supplied me with every single one of their team pins this week. This whole pin trading business here at the games should be listed as one of the official sports!

Have you been checking out the videos we have been posting? Awesome one with Alberta’s Christianne Varty doing a team cheer at the end, and what about this one with Nova Scotia fans Sophie and Maddy? Classic quote when Emily asks why they play ringette “It looks pretty easy.” You gotta love how kids tell it like it is!

The games so far today have been pretty exciting. BC beat PEI this morning so they go on to play Alberta tonight. Saskatchewan pulled off a pretty big upset beating Manitoba 3-2. Obviously Manitoba was crushed. I must say that the hardest part of my job is having to see these athletes who have worked so hard suffer such painful defeat.

The refs are still smiling and having fun, so are the fans. The biggest smiles may even be coming from us.

And it’s a wrap for round-robin play

Another day and another four ringette games. Today saw the last of round-robin play and tomorrow we will move into the qualification round. Energy is still high and for sure we are going to be in for some exciting games in the next few days.

We started the day off driving through a small blizzard on the way to the rink. Since Team Nova Scotia played the first game of the day, it was a crowded house and we parked near the back. It was a fun short walk to the arena as Emily and I belted out an old classic tune.

After our incident yesterday with the police, our nicknames for today are Cagney and Lacey. Emily is Cagney and I am Lacey. As always, we are giddy to learn what tomorrow holds in the nickname department. Any guesses? Our phenomenal gamesheet entry pal, Cathy Hebert, is the brains behind the nickname operation.

Since Franski and I met at the 2007 Canada Winter Games, I have been missing her smiling face around the rink. As always, many small things make me think of our crazy adventures since 2007. If I was to sum it all up, this photo totally captures it.

There continues to be lots of media interviews happening with the athletes. At one point today we had seven interviews immediately following one of the games. Very exciting for the athletes to have this opportunity to do interviews and it is great exposure for our sport.

Tonight will consist of printing gamesheets for tomorrow’s games and resting up for our big five-game day. The officials invited us to the Keg for dinner, so that’s pretty good incentive to get our work done quickly. Or wait, wasn’t that invitation taken back? Giddy up.

Jeux du Canada - Et le tournoi à la ronde est complet!

Une autre journée, un autre 4 match de ringuette. Aujourd’hui marque la fin du tournoi à la ronde et demain c’est le début de la ronde de qualification . L’énergie sera sans doute incomparable et ce sera sans doute des parties excitantes au cours des prochains jours.

Notre journée c’est débutée en conduisant dans une petite tempête en route vers l’aréna. Étant donné que Nouvelle-Écosse jouait la première partie nous avons du se stationner très loin de la bâtisse. Notre courte aventure de l’auto vers l’aréna fut agréable grave à une chanson classique.

Suite à notre incident avec les policiers d’hier, nos surnoms de la journée étaient : Cagney and Lacey. Emliy est Cagney et je suis Lacey. Comme d’habitue, nous anticipons nos noms pour demain. Vous voulez devinez nos noms de demain? Notre amie des feuilles de match, Cathy Hébert, est la responsable de nous baptiser à tous les jours.

Étant donné que Franski et moi sommes rencontrés au Jeux du Canada en 2007, sa fait drôle de ne pas l’avoir à mes côtés. C’est certain qu’il y a plusieurs rappels de nos plusieurs aventures ici même aux Jeux de 2010. Cette photo en est un exemple typique. Oh Franski, tu me manques!

Il y a encore plusieurs entrevues avec les médias pour nos athlètes. Suite à unes des parties nous avions un total de 7 demandes pour des entrevues. C’est très excitant pour nos athlète de pouvoir livrer des entrevues et c’est une promotion exceptionnel pour notre sport.

Ce soir nous devons faire l’impression des feuilles de matches pour les parties de demain et sans doute nous allons prendre le temps de se reposer pour Jours 5 des Jeux. Les officiels nous ont invitées de se joindre à eux pour souper, alors voilà notre motivation de compléter notre travail rapidement. Par contre, est-ce qu’ils ont retiré leur invitation? Allons-y!

Canada Games - Here is what I think.

Since our Ten Things I Think I Think for the National Ringette League gets so much attention, I thought it might be fun to do one for today’s blog post. These are of course my thoughts, so if you have thoughts that you think I might enjoy having, please shoot me an email at alayne@ringette.ca.

1. I think that even if you think Valentine’s Day is a crock of baloney (I count myself in this group), it is hard not to feel the love. Emily and I gave valentine’s and chocolate to all our referees to made sure they felt the love too. Really we were just trying to get them jacked up on chocolate before their games, but shhhh...don’t tell anyone.

2. I think Nova Scotians are super friendly. However, when you forget to renew your license plate and the friendly police officer pulls you over, he will give you a ticket...in the friendliest possible way.

3. I think this nickname thing is catching on. Apparently we are being given daily nicknames. Yesterday we were Frick and Frack and today we are Laverne and Shirley. Apparently I am Laverne and Emily is Shirley. Can hardly wait to see what tomorrow brings.

4. I think that even if it is Sunday night in Halifax there is always a friendly pub open and waiting to welcome you in for a beer. Speaking of beer, the official’s lounge at the hotel is up and running. If past CWG’s are any indication, there are always a few laughs to be had when the sports intermingle.

5. I think Emily is really embracing her role as videographer here at the games. She of course has other roles that she is doing very well, but she is really stoked about this particular one. Like seriously, check out her smiling face when she is doing these videos.

6. I think Emily and I need sou’wester’s. Not sure if they would keep us warm, but oh man, wouldn’t we look cool?

7. I think the level of play here at these games is incredible. It is anyone’s game and as teams from the two pools cross over, it can go either way. Don’t blink when you follow along on the webcast, you don’t want to miss anything.

8. I think I should have been given a walkie talkie. I admit I would have totally let out the odd Roger Dodger, but just think how much fun I would have brought to the airwaves.

9. I think this event has so much prestige, you always have to be on the lookout for who you might run into. Whether it be a famous reporter that will put your picture on the news, or a famous athlete like Tie Domi. Lookout Halifax - you’re turning into Hollywood.

10. I think I made a mistake in yesterday’s daily report. Wait, I know I did. I wrote that Alberta was the only team left undefeated, BUT...Nova Scotia was also undefeated (and still is). My apologies to every athlete on that team. Is it possible that my mistake and the ticket from the friendly police officer are related? Something to think about.

Jeux du Canada - Voici ce que je pense

Étant donné que nos Dix choses auxquelles je pense de la Ligue Nationale de Ringuette reçoivent tant d’attention, j’ai cru bon de suivre ce format pour mon blogue aujourd’hui. Voici mes pensées, mais si vous avez des choses auxquelles vous croyez que je devrais penser SVP me les faire parvenir alayne@ringette.ca.

1. Je pense que même si vous êtes du genre ‘anti-St-Valentin’ (comme moi) c’est quand même difficile de ne pas se laisser emporter un peu par l’amour qui englobe cette journée. Afin de s’assurer que nos officiels sentent un peu de cet amour, Emily et moi leurs avons offert des chocolat à l’occasion de la journée. OK je l’avoue, notre plan était vraiment de les bourrer de chocolats avant leur parties, mais shhhh… dites la à personne.

2. Je pense que les néo-écossais sont très amicales. Mais je dois vous aviser que si vous oublier de renouveler vos plaques d’immatriculations, la police va quand même vous arrêter et vous donner une contravention… de façon très amicale par contre.

3. Je pense que la folie des surnoms a débuté. Les bénévoles ont décider de changer nos noms à chaque jour. Hier nous étions Frick et Frack et aujourd’hui nous sommes Laverne et Shirley. Apparemment je suis Laverne et Emily est Shirley. J’ai hâte de voir nos noms demain.

4. Je pense que même si c’est un dimanche soir il y a toujours un bar d’ouvert prêt à vous accueillir. Parlant de bière… la loge des officiels est ouverte à notre hôtel. Si ont se base sure les Jeux passés, il y aura plusieurs rencontre à venir. Quand les sports s’entre croise, il y a toujours des beaux moments.

5. Je pense qu’Emily aime vraiment sont rôle en tant que vidéographe à cet événement. Elle a aussi plusieurs autres rôles qu’elle comble très bien, mais elle aime vraiment celui-ci. Voyez sont sourire .

6. Je pense qu’Emily et moi avons besoin de sou’wester’s. Probablement pas l’item qui nous garderait le plus au chaud, mais oh que nous aurions l’aire cool!!

7. Je pense que le niveau de jeu ici est incroyable. Les parties à date ont été très serrées, j’ai hâte de voir les parties entre les équipes des groupes opposés. Vous devez rester attentif lors des webdiffusions, car c’est tellement rapide que si vous cligner des yeux vous aller manquer un jeu important.

8. Je pense que j’aurai dû recevoir un walkie talkie. C’est certain que j’aurai contribué une ‘Rodger Dodger’ ou un 10-4 de trop. Mais penser au plaisir que j’aurai pu contribuer aux ondes.

9. Je pense que cet événement a tellement de prestige, on ne sait jamais qui on va rencontrer. Que ce soit un journaliste qui pourrais afficher ta photo à la télé ou un athlète célèbre comme Tie Domi. Attention Halifax – vous êtes en route pour devenir un mini-Hollywood.

10. Je pense avoir fait une erreur dans mon rapport d’hier. Attend, je sais que j’en ai fais une. J’ai écris que l’Alberta était la seule équipe avec une fiche parfaite, MAIS… le Nouvelle-Écosse en avait une aussi (et la maintien encore). Mes excuses aux athlètes et au personnel de l’équipe. Est-ce possible que mon erreur et ma contravention d’hier sont inter-reliées? Pensez-y.

Come on everybody, let’s dance.

OK, so it’s Sunday in beautiful sunny Halifax and what better way to spend the day than taking in some exciting ringette games at the phenomenal Canada Winter Games. Another four games on the line-up today and smiles and excitement on the athlete ’s faces remains strong.

It’s only day two and Emily and I have acquired some nicknames from the locals. They have started calling us Frick and Frack. I think Emily is Frick and I am Frack, but we’re still not sure. That’s a compliment, right?

Once again I must give a shout-out to the amazing volunteers that are making these ringette games run flawlessly here at Cole Harbour Place. They are downright awesome. Yes it is only day two and people still have lots of energy, but something tells me these guys are going to be just as hyped up come Friday. Giddy up.

It appears we never fit a video into our Day One activities. Sorry about that folks. But to make up for it, we have pulled together a stellar one for today. Check it out here. Continue to check out our YouTube channel because we will be doing daily videos for your viewing pleasure.

PEI played their first game today, so now everyone has hit the ice. Unfortunately their first game was also one of their toughest and they suffered a tough 8-1 loss to Alberta.

Must send another shout-out to Cathy Hebert, who has been doing a tremendous job entering our gamesheets and is now entering data live so you folks at home can follow along minute by minute. In addition to being an awesome gamesheet enterer, she also saved my bacon by lending me her Macbook power cord. It seems I left mine at home. Dang. Thanks to the power of Facebook, someone driving into the city is delivering mine today. Phew.

Bit of an upset in the BC versus Ontario game. Ontario certainly the favourite going in and they led 3-2 at the half, but BC came back in the second with two, then Ontario responded with one to force overtime. Erika Lipsett from Salmon Arm put in the winner for BC and it was insane to see the fans in the stands go crazy. Very big win for BC.

Speaking of BC, Elizabeth Dagg’s story continues to impress me. She’s hearing impaired and her mom accompanies her on the bench and signs for her. Canadian Press did a story on her. Check it out here. Pretty amazing, eh?

Who knows what Halifax will bring to our doorsteps tonight. Perhaps another fun trip to shoppers drug mart, or discovering the many uses of duck tape.

Jeux du Canada - Allez tout l'monde, dansons!

Quoi de mieux que de passer un dimanche en soleillé aux parties de ringuette des Jeux d’Hiver du Canada. 4 matches sont à l’affiche aujourd’hui et les sourires l’excitation sont encore très présents sur la figure des athlètes.

Nous ne sommes qu’à la deuxième journée des Jeux et Emily et moi avons déjà acquis des surnoms. Les bénévoles nous ont surnommées Frick et Frack. Je pense qu’Emily est Frick et moi je suis Frack. C’est un compliment, non?

Encore une fois je me dois de mentionner les bénévoles extraordinaires. Les parties de ringuette à Cole Harbour Place se déroulent sans aucuns problèmes grâce à eux. Chapeau à vous! Et oui nous ne sommes que mardi, mais j’en suis certaine que le niveau d’énergie et d’enthousiasme seront encore aussi élevés vendredi. Allons-y!

Il semblerait que nous avons omis d’incorporé le tournage d’un vidéo lors de notre journée hier. Mais nous en avons un aujourd’hui! Visionnez-le ici. Je vous invite à consulter notre site YouTube régulièrement.

PEI ont disputé leur première partie aujourd’hui, ce qui veux dire que toutes les équipes ont au moins une partie de joué.

Je dois encore une fois mentionner Cathy Herbert, elle fait un travail impeccable au niveau des résultats et des feuilles de match. C’est grâce à elle que vous pouvez voir les pointage en temps réel sur notre site. En plus, elle m’a grandement aidé en me prêtant le fil d’alimentation pour mon Macbook. J’ai oublié le miens chez moi. Merde. Mais, grâce au pouvoir de Facebook quelque de chez moi est en route pour la région accompagné de mon fil.

On a vue un surprise lors de la partie BC vs Ontario . Ontario étant les favoris était en tête par 2 à la demi. Mais la Colombie-Britanique est revenu de l’arrière pour ensuite voir l’Ontario forcé la prolongation. Erika Lipsett de Salmon Arm a compté le but gagnant pour l’équipe de l’Ouest. Et la foule (du BC certain) a explosé de joie. Un gros 2 points pour l’équipe.

Étant donné que nous sommes sur le sujet de la Colombie-Britanique, l’histoire d’ Elizabeth Dagg ne cesse de m’épater. Elle est sourde et muette. Sa mère l’accompagne sur le banc des joueurs afin d’aider avec la communication par signes. La presse canadienne en a fais un histoire : here. C’est quelque chose, non?

Qui sais ce qu’Halifax a a l’horaire pour nous ce soir. Une visite au Pharmaprix ou encore l’élaboration des nos découvertes des maintes utilité du duck tape.

Canada Games - Ready. Set. Go!

And the games are underway.
Fresh off the captivating opening ceremonies, the ringette action started at 9 am with a packed house for the opening game between Nova Scotia and New Brunswick. At one point they were turning people away at the door. Not great for the people who didn’t get in, but totally awesome that there is so much interest in ringette.

The hometown favourites didn’t disappoint and came away with a strong 8-5 win over New Brunswick. As you can imagine, the crowd went wild. . Immediately following the game, Team Nova Scotia skated out and did a team wave to their many fans in the stands. Nice touch.

Overall day one has been running very smoothly. The host volunteers are doing an amazing job and the best part is that the friendly East coast hospitality is running rampant in the rink. It is evident by the smiles on the athlete’s faces that everyone is having an amazing time.

There have been a tonne of media interviews following every game and it is refreshing to see so much interest in our sport and more importantly, our athletes. The people we’ve ran into that are seeing ringette for the first time love how great the game is. Fast and exciting are the words they using. Yes folks, it’s an amazing game!

The Alberta vs. Manitoba game was was pretty exciting with Manitoba leading 3-1 at the half and then Alberta came back to tie it up and then win it in overtime. Crazy amount of energy in the building. I did a double take when I saw the gamesheet after the game because it didn’t have any penalties. Not often you see that.

You know it’s been a busy day when Emily and I have only bumped into each other about a half a dozen times throughout the day and most of our contact has been via cell phone. Emily has been busy as a beaver taking pictures, so make sure you check them all out here
Saturday night in Halifax. I am sure we’ll find something exciting to do once we wrap things up here at the rink. Sure wish Franski was here!

Jeux de Canada - À vos marques. Prêt. Partez!

Les parties ont commencées aujourd’hui!

Suite à une cérémonie d’ouverture captivante, l’action a débuté pour la ringuette à 9h ce matin. Le match d’ouverture entre à Nouvelle-Écosse et le Nouveau Brunswick c’est disputé à guichet fermé. Il y a même eu des gens qui n’ont pas pu entrer voir la partie tellement que c’était salle comble. Ce n’est pas plaisant pour ceux qui n’ont pas pu voir la partie, par contre c’est FANTASTIQUE de voir un tel intérêt pour la ringuette.

L’équipe hôte est sortie en grande force avec une victoire de 8-5 contre NB. Comme vous pouvez le constater la foule était en délire! Suite à la partie, les membres de l’équipe de la Nouvelle-Écosse sont retournés sur la glace et on fait la vague pour les partisans dans les estrades. Très bien!

À date la première journée c’est déroulée très bien. Les bénévole locales font un travail impeccable, sans oublier l’accueil typique des gens de l’Est canadien. C’est évident par les sourires sur les visages des athlètes que tout le monde aime leur expérience à date.

Il y a eu une tonne d’entrevue avec les médias suite aux parties. C’est super de voir tellement d’intérêt pour notre sport, plus précisément pour nos athlètes. Pour plusieurs des journalistes c’est une initiation à la ringuette et le commentaire commun : ‘C’est un sport très rapide et excitant!’. Et bien oui, c’est un sport INCROYABLE!

La partie Alberta vs Manitoba était pas mal excitante. Manitoba avait une avance de 3-1 à la demi. Alberta a répliqué pour finalement remporter la partie en prolongation. Il y avait une énergie remarquable dans l’aréna. J’ai dû regarder à deux reprises car quand j’ai vue la feuille de match il n’y avait pas de pénalités d’inscrit. C’est rare de voir ça!

On peut dire que ce fut une journée occupée quand moi et Emily nous sommes seulement croisé quelques fois et que la majorité de nos conversation fut par téléphone. Emily a été très occupée à prendre des photos de la journée.

Un petit samedi soir à Halifax… J’en suis certaine que pouvoir trouver quelque chose d’excitant à faire lorsque les parties se terminent ici à l’aréna de Cole Harbour. Si seulement Franski était ici!

Canada Games - Let the Games begin!

The Opening Ceremony. It’s the start of it all; the Games have officially been launched. The next two weeks represent the pursuit of excellence in both sport and art. You can often see words of inspiration associated with the Games. The phrase ‘Compete. Contribute. Celebrate.’ was one that appeared in the ceremony program. The games are not only about sport, they build so much more than that on both the community level, and the national level. Canadian culture can be found in so many aspects of the games, and it is showcased in all its diversity. The power of sport is limitless.

The Halifax Metro Centre was arranged to perfection. Images of the province and of the people attending were projected onto screens which resembled the schooner sails of the legendary Bluenose, and the crowd was illuminated as they waved optic fibre red lights.

The teams walked into the centre accompanied by the music of cheering fans. You could see their bright smiling faces on the big screen displays as the cameras captured their excitement (not to mention the display of some pretty cool outfits). By the time over 2000 athletes made their way into their seats, the excitement in the building was growing immensely.

Many athletes touched the symbolic Canada Games flag as it travelled like a wave across the arena before being raised and suspended in the air at the top of the building. Oaths were pledged by representatives from groups of coaches, officials, and athletes, with our own Ringette competitor Brittany Avery making the athlete pledge. After hearing her new song performed the night before, the much anticipated repeat performance of Supersonic by Chantal Kreviazuk was loved by all. The song’s stuck in my head, but I’m happy it is until I can hear it again.

The opening game featuring Nova Scotia and New Brunswick is face passed and exciting. Setting the stage for what is going to be a great event!

Jeux du Canada - Cérémonie d'ouverture

La cérémonie d’ouverture. C’est le début officiel des Jeux! Les deux prochaines semaines représentent la poursuite des l’excellence dans le sport ainsi que dans le domaine des arts. On voit souvent des phrases d’inspiration associées avec les Jeux. Pour la cérémonie d’ouverture ‘Concourir. Contribuer. Célébrer’ était à l’affiche.

Les Jeux vont au-delà de la simple participation sportive. Les Jeux rassemblent les communautés. Célèbre la culture canadienne ainsi que la diversité.

Le Metro Centre d’Halifax était magnifique. Des images représentants la province hôtesse ainsi que celle des participants dans la salle étaient projetés sur des écrans géants qui ressemblaient aux voiles du légendaire ‘Bluenose’. De plus les partisans dans la salle avaient tous des lumières à fibre optique.

La parade des athlètes a été accompagnée de musique ainsi que par les encouragements de la foule. Les sourires et les expressions de joie étaient en grand nombre sur les figures des athlètes. Les écrans géants nous ont permis de voir non seulement les réactions des athlètes, mais aussi les super costumes des équipes.

Par le temps que les 2000 athlètes et entraîneurs se sont installés dans leur siège le niveau d’énergie dans la salle était extraordinaire.

Pour moi un moment touchant fut l’arrivé du drapeau des Jeux de Canada. L’entré spectaculaire a fait en sorte que les athlètes on eu la chance d’y touché. Il a passé comme une vague parmi la foule d’athlètes.

Je dois prendre un moment pour mentionner les serments des entraineurs, des officiels et des athlètes. Le serment des athlètes en français a été fait par une athlète de l’équipe de ringuette de la Nouvelle-Écosse - Brittany Avery!

Chantal Kreviazuk a chanté la chanson officiel des Jeux – Supersonic. Excellent! Je cherche encore à trouver sa performance enligne afin de la partager. Soyez à l’écoute!

La partie Nouvelle-Écosse vs Nouveau-Brunswick se joue présentement. C’est toutes une partie!

Canada Games - The Arrival!

I took the 9:15 am flight from Ottawa to Halifax yesterday morning , and although it was a little over an hour, I don't think I blinked the entire time. I knew there really wasn't enough time to finish up a movie, but I figured what I didn't finish, I'd catch on the way back. However, I was still optimistic that I could squeeze it in as long as they didn't cut it off when we landed (Air Canada's been pretty good with flights I've taken in terms of keeping a movie going). Besides, if there's an option to watch a movie right in front of you, you've gotta take it.

So I watched Unstoppable. About a train. Denzel Washington. Amazing. It was suspenseful the entire way through, and like I said, I didn't blink. Air Canada pulled through again for me, kept the movie running after we landed, so I squeezed in every last drop. I was the 4th last person off the flight, and I had to leave 20 minutes and 35 seconds unfinished. I know what I’m watching on the way home. The trick will be to not start another movie after that.

Once I snapped back to reality, we were in Halifax! What a beautiful city, lots of snow on the ground, and friendly Canada Games volunteers with smiles and warm welcomes. As we drove through town towards our hotel, we saw the Oval, and tons of Canada Games signs. Let The Games Begin!

There was a family reception in the evening where Cathy Jones just happened to be the MC! Man, she is funny. There were lots of laughs, a few awards, and lots of thank-yous. Chantal Kreviazuk was a special guest who sang her new Canada Games song - I can't wait to hear it again! The next act was SQUID; a precision drummers group that included some bagpipes and a fiddle. (You might remember them if you were at the CRC in Halifax in 2007) Their music was great, and the stage act was impressive to watch. I couldn't help but listen to some instrumental music when I got back to the hotel like "Melanie Doane - Mel's Rock Pile", "Spirit of the West - Canadian Skye", the Fables (Heave Away is a classic pre-game song with my mom)... and the list goes on. You can't beat that East Coast music.

Teams begin their practices today - then Opening Ceremonies in the evening. Be sure to tune in on TSN2 and RDS at 6pm EST. Canada Go!

Jeux du Canada - L'arrivée!

Mon départ pour Halifax était hier matin à 9h15. L’envolée était d’un peu plus d’une heure, mais je ne pense pas avoir cligné des yeux une fois! Malgré qu’il n’y ait pas vraiment assez de temps pour visionner un film au complet j’ai pris la chance.

‘Unstopable’. C’est à propos d’un train. Et bien sur Denzel Washington. Excellent film! Mais je n’ai pas pu voir la fin… l’envolée était pas assez longue. Même avec le fait que j’étais une des dernières de débarquer de l’avion. Mais, je sais ce que je vais regarder lors de mon retour. Le dernier 20 minutes de ce filme.

Suite à mes aventures avec Air Canada, me voilà de retour à la réalité. Bonjour Halifax! Super belle ville, beaucoup de neige parterre et bien sur un accueil chaleureux des bénévoles de Jeux du Canada. La route vers l’hôtel fut rempli d’enseignes des Jeux et de plus j’ai vue l’emplacement de patinage de vitesse (qui est à l’extérieure).

Il y avait un réception pour les familles en soirée, et Cathy Jones était MC. Elle est TRÈS drôle! Beaucoup de rires et encore plus de MERCI! Chantal Kreviazuk était aussi parmi nous et elle a chanté la chanson officiel des Jeux – j’ai hâte de pouvoir l’entendre encore une fois. Ensuite ce fut le tour du group SQUID – un group de percussion ainsi que de la cornemuse et du violon. (Pour ceux qui était des nôtre au Championnat Canadien en 2007 vous vous en souvenez certainement.)

Lors de mon retour à l’hôtel je ne pouvais m’empêcher d’écouter de la music instrumetale du genre de : "Melanie Doane - Mel's Rock Pile", "Spirit of the West - Canadian Skye", the Fables (Heave Away est une chanson d’avant match classique de moi et me mère). La musique d’origine est-canadienne, c’est excellent!

Les pratiques commencent aujourd’hui et les cérémonies d’ouvertures sont ce soir. À ne pas manquer sur RDS et TSN2 à 18h EST.

2011 Canada Winter Games here we come!

The Canada Winter Games will kick off in Halifax on Friday and we are looking forward to some exciting ringette games being played. For those of you who are lucky enough to attend the event, we hope to see you around the rink (Cole Harbour Place is where ringette will be played). If you can’t be at the games, don’t worry…we have developed a comprehensive outreach program that will give you the option to follow as little or as much as you want. Our goal is to make those at home feel like they are part of the action.

Here’s what’s planned:

All ringette games, as well as the opening ceremonies, will be webcast live by BellAliant. To watch the webcasts, click here. Ringette games will start on Saturday, February 12^th and finals will take place on Friday, February 18^th.

Les Jeux d'hiver du Canada vont commencer dès vendredi et il y aura certainement des parties très excitantes de ringuette! Nous espérons avoir l'occasion de saluer tous ceux qui ont la chance de pouvoir assister à cette compétition, à la patinoire Cole Harbour Place où aura lieu le tournoi de ringuette. Mais si vous ne pouvez pas assister aux parties, ne vous inquiétez pas ... nous avons élaboré un programme complet pour vous tenir au courant, selon la dose que vous voulez! Notre objectif, c'est que même ceux qui sont restés à la maison puissent aussi faire partie de l'action.

Layneksi and I sure did. We went all out! We had Go Canada Go written all over us!

After we were suited up and had gone down to the team meal, we were given the task to stop buy Prisma on our way to the rink. Always happy to stop in at our favourite store, we took on the task, in our GO Canada GO attire of course.

We may parked illegally while at Prisma, not completely sure about that, but there were other cars there too so we just went with it. As we walked around the store we got a few strange looks, but we just looked right back at them. Confidence, thats what we had. Canada ALL the way!!

Posted all the messages from today on the wall... we are getting so many of them we had to start a new wall section today!! Athletes are loving all the support! Keep ‘em coming.

Once we got settled into our ‘office’ here at the rink we got to take in the final minutes of the USA-SWE Bronze medal series. USA won the game, I didn’t notice the score. But what I thought was awesome was the group photo the teams took after the game. Sportsmanship at its best! World class athletes right there.

Then it was time for the BIG SHOW... The athletes were ready and so were the fans (here and Tampere and all of you back home I am sure). How many of you tuned into the webcast? Did any of you skip school or work? (not that I am encouraging this type of behaviour but... a gold medal was on the line!)

During the on-ice warm-up Laynski and I stepped up our game a little. Standing up on the boards, looking over the glace we made sure the team knew we were there to support them. We even got the Canadian section of fans cheering with us. Seeing as this was not a discreet operation, we were quickly spotted by the host organizing committee security and asked to step down. Maybe if we weren’t right over the Finnish bench, they would have let us slide. But we cooperated and headed back to our ‘office’.

But we did NOT miss the next opportunity that presented itself to us. They kicked us off during warm-up, so we took it upon ourselves to step it up during the half time (for the record we would have been all over this during the entire game, but live stats and color commentary were also part of our job description). The official song of the event was performed live by the band Clarkent. (Yup like superman)... so we just joined in on their show. The row of open seats right behind the stage were just asking for someone to run over and dance. So of course Alayne and I took it upon ourselves to make sure that happened! We made the WEBCAST and the jumbo screen at the rink! Everybody knew CANADA was going for gold!

In what was one of the best ringette games of all-time, Canada fell short and in turn Finland won the gold.

OK so they won the medal, but as many of the athletes put it. We have hearts of GOLD!

I had the opportunity to be a part of the post game festivities. As I have mentioned many times over the course of this program we have the BEST athletes. Not only are they exceptionally talented on the ice, but they are world class individuals off the ice as well.

The poise and grace they have shown throughout the event has been amazing. It has been an honour to be a part of this program with all of you.

I will share a few of the comments made in the dressing room during the post-game festivities:

‘The Finns might have the gold medal, but we have hearts of GOLD!’

‘We have made exceptional progress with the national team over the last 18 months. If we keep doing what we are doing there are great things to come... Sam Jacks Trophy will be back in Canada’.

‘Each of us have grown as individuals throughout this programme. It’s the small moments in life that matter, moments like this one that I will remember forever.’

‘The Gold medal would end up in a box or in a scrapbook, the memories we have shared will last forever’

‘What we have accomplished as group here is extraordinary. We have truly come together, we are a family and that is was ringette is all about.

With comments like that one can’t help but be proud of this group. They have given us an amazing show on the ice! Canada is proud of you, the ringette community thanks you and Layneski and Franski thank you for the opportunity to share this adventure with you.

The team will be back in Canada on Sunday. Athletes will return to their respective NRL teams most of which hit the ice next weekend. I predict a tomato and cucumber salad on the menu for each of these athletes. Cause we didn't have a chance to have that at all here this week... just saying. LOL

The blog will be continuing on over the course of the season. I will be sure to share stories and details from behind the scenes of the Canadian ringette world, most likely not on a daily basis, but be sure to check back in. I will be sure to provide daily blogs from the 2011 Canadian Ringette Championships coming up at the end of March.

(Side note: Katie Lugg and Erin Cumpstone are making it very difficult for me to complete this right now. But they are awesome and we love them. They are also bilingual in case you were wondering?! Ando and Barb look GREAT!?)

A final shoutout to Petey and Ando – thanks for reading the blog every night. I am glad I could entertain you! I will post a video of the Glee club as soon as I can. Thanks for pointing out my lack of follow through on that promise.

Jour12 - Un défaite au pointage mais, une victoire dans nos coeurs!

Portiez-vous les couleurs??

Layneski et moi étions vêtu de la tête aux pieds en vêtements GO CANADA GO! Nous avons même fait notre arrêt journalier au Prisma vêtu comme ca. Quelques regard étrange et incertains… mais nous avons marché avec confiance et détermination. ‘Canada all the way!’

Notre arrivé à l’aréna comme d’habitude a commencé par l’affichage des nouveaux messages de la journée. Nous en avons tellement maintenant que nous avons du commencer une nouvelle section de mur. Les athlètes apprécient grandement vos messages. Merci!

Suite à s’être installer dans notre ‘bureau’ à l’aréna nous avons pu voir les dernières minutes de jeux de la partie pour la médaille de bronze. Les États-Unis l’on remporté, mais je n’ai pas remarque le pointage. Par contre j’ai remarqué la photo de groupe prise par les deux équipes suite à la partie. Excellente démonstration d’esprit sportif. Des athlètes de première classe!

C’était ensuite l’heure de vérité (ben quelques heures vraiment). Canada vs Finlande. Une victoire pour Canada force une 3^e partie, une perte donne le titre de championnes du monde à la Finlande. Avez-vous regardé la partie aujourd’hui? Est-ce que certain d’entre vous avez manqué votre journée de travail ou même d’école pour regarder le match? (Je n’encourage pas ce genre de comportement, mais une médaille d’or est en jeu!!!)

Lors de la session de réchauffement sur-glace. Layneski et moi avons décidé d’encourager l’équipe. Donc debout sur le bord de la bande, pour voir au dessus le la vitre, et nos cris de GO CANDA GO… après quelques minutes, un bénévole de l’événement est venu nous dire qu’il fallait descendre! Et bien, On a fait notre marque sur les Finlandais. Je pense que vraiment nous les avons intimidés, c’était trop pour eux. Donc ils ont choisi de nous arrêter. Mais nous avons eux notre chance. Lors de l’entracte (entre la 2 et la 3) un group locale à chanter la chanson officiel de l’événement en-direct. Alors, Lanski et moi avons vue notre chance! Derrière de groupe il y avait des sièges de libre donc nous avons dansé derrière le groupe pour la majorité de la chanson. Les chandails canadiens étaient très présent, webdiffusion et sur l’écran géant de l’aréna. GO CANADA GO!

Une partie excellente. Canada a dominé le début de la partie. Mais en bout de ligne la Finlande a été couronné championnes. Une défaite difficile à digérer. Mais, beaucoup de positif à retirer de la partie.

Suite à la partie nous avons eu le privilège de passer de temps avec les athlètes et le personnel d’équipe dans le vestiaire. Une petite célébration après avoir prit un peu de temps pout digérer la défaite.

Nous avons un group d’athlètes exceptionnelles. Je me répète souvent sur ce sujet, mais c’est tellement vrai. Les messages qui ont été partagés lors de notre petit rassemblement :

‘La médaille d’or a peut être été décernée à l’autre équipe, mais nous avons l’or dans notre cœur.’

‘Nous avons fait du progrès exceptionnel avec notre program au cours des dernières années, nous sommes sur la bonne voie. Continuons et le trohpé Sam Jacks revindra au Canada’

‘Chacune d’entre nous a évolué sur un plan personnel grâce à ce programme. Ce sont les petit moments comme ceux-ci que nous allons retenir pour le restant de nos jours’

‘Ce fut une expérience extraordinaire. Partager ceci avec ce group d’athlètes et d’entraineurs fut un honneur. Nous sommes une famille, nous représentons ce qu’est la ringuette.’

Je dois avouer que suite à la partie je ne savais pas trop quoi dire. Une situation très difficile et on ne veut pas dire rien de déplacer. Mais après avoir participé au petit rassemblement je suis encore plus convaincu que nous avons des athlètes de première classe. Ce fut un honneur de partager cette expérience avec vous. Merci pour l’opportunité.

Une nation de partisans est fière de vous. La communauté canadienne de ringuette est fière de vous. ET Lanski et Franski sommes fière de vous.

La majorité de l’équipe sera de retour au Canada dimanche. Les athlètes seront de retour sur la patinoire avec leur équipe de la LRN respective pour les partie des la fin de semaine prochaine.

Le retour de Laynski et Franski sera un peu plus tard. Nous faisons escale à Paris! Les aventures continuent.

Day 11 - Going for GOLD!

Happy Birthday Erin! Today was Erin Cumpstone’s (#81) birthaday. So the athletes gathered in her room, while she was at breakfast and surprised her when she got back. They had decorated her room for her! Very Fun! She was really surprised, it was quite funny to see.

I then attended the morning skate with the team. Only a few athletes decided to take part in the skate this morning. I posted loads more of the gocanadago@ringette.ca messages and was able to pull together a short video. Thanks for the words of encouragement and keep ‘em coming.

While the athletes were on the ice, Laynski and I took some time to do some laundry. The hockey team here at the rink is sharing their laundry facility with us. After the crash course on how the machine worked (DON’T push the red button) we were good to go. I must admit we had to resist the urge to push that button... but we did not resist the urge to put one the hockey jerseys that were hanging in that room. Always an adventure. #44 Laynski and #23 Franski... we are ready if we ever get the call up.

After a much anticipated ringette debut by my partner in crime, Laynski had to pull out of the Media vs local athletes’ game today. Turns our finding a pair of skates that fit her was much more of an undertaking than we thought. But rest assured she is ready for next time. She is sure to travel with her skates next time.

Our disappointment was comforted by a so you think you can dance show put on by two of the team members after practice. We were even treated to two variations of ‘the worm’ dance move. Keep it up ladies. We also got to ride at the back of the bus (given that it was pretty empty) but nonetheless we got to sit there :) The party is way more fun at the back, we really need to try and get the season pass to those seats I think.

So obviously today marked my color commentating debut. Correction, technically the 2008 World Club Championships would have been my debut, so this would be my... is there a fancy word for second time? So my second time at this ... So you all heard us. How did we do?

I personally think we did awesome, but my view might be a little bias. However seeing as I was there when we did the first few practice runs back at the office... there is no other way to put this: we sucked. Yup we practiced with game footage from ’07, but didn’t have it at all. So I was a little nervous going in. But let me tell you once Dave started us off he rocked this like it was his job. Our agent Laynski is working on our contracts with TSN right now. So just a heads up RC might need a new ED and Sport Dev Director... lol.

So our commentator debut was a success... right?

GREAT GAME TEAM CANADA! That’s all I have to say about that. Well clearly I will say more, but if I was only allowed one sentence that would be it. But seeing as this is my blog and my rules... I’m going to add a few more things. It was a phenomenal game to watch. I am lucky to have been able to see it live and am proud of our team. We have the most amazing athletes and they have truly showed us what they have here in today’s game. Thank you for a great game, I admire you all (and based on the emails we have been getting we have a nation full of supporters back home who feel the same way).

Tomorrow will be a WIN! GO Canada GO!

Jour 11 - La série Or débute!

Bonne Fête Erin! Aujourd'hui, c'était la fête de Erin Cumpstone (# 81). Les athlètes se sont réunis dans sa chambre pendant qu’elle était su déjeuner et l’on surprise lors de son retour. Mission accompli, elle ne s’attendait pas de voir des gens dans sa chambre, néanmoins pour lui souhaiter bonne fête!

J'ai ensuite assisté à l'entraînement matinal avec l'équipe. Seulement quelques athlètes ont décidé d’y prendre part ce matin. J'ai affiché les messages que vous nous avez envoyés et même fait un court vidéo. Merci!!

Alors que les athlètes étaient sur la glace, Laynski et moi avons pris le temps de faire un peu de lessive. L'équipe de hockey ici à la patinoire partage leur salle de buanderie avec nous. Après le cours accéléré sur le fonctionnement de la machine (ne pas appuyer sur le bouton rouge), nous étions prêts à partir. Je dois admettre que nous avons eu à résister l'envie de pousser ce bouton ... mais nous n'avons pas résisté à l'envie d’enfiler un des chandails de hockey qui étaient suspendus dans cette chambre. # 44 Laynski et le # 23 Franski ... nous sommes prêts si jamais on reçoit l’appelle.

Désolé de partager avec vous que Laynski ne fere pas son début à la ringuette ici en Finlande. On lui avait demander de participer à un match entre les médias et des athlètes de la région. Mais notre recherche pour des patins n’a pas été un succès et alors nous avons du reporter son initiation au sport. Peut être la prochaine fois. Elle voyagera certainement avec ses patins dorénavant !

Déçu de ne pas pouvoir participer mais réconforter par le spectacle du genre So You Think You Can Danse. Toujours intéressant d’être dans les alentours de nos athlètes.

En plus d’un spectacle, nous avons aussi eux le privilège de s’assoir à l’arrière de l’autobus. C’est la chose ‘cool’ à faire. Je cherche un façon d’avoir un billet de saison pour un banc dans cette section. LOL

Et bien oui, premier match de la série or = début de ma carrière en tant qu’analyste en direct. Ok j’avoue qu’en 2008 au championnat mondial des clubs j’ai aussi agit en tant qu’analyste… alors c’est ma deuxième fois. Quand même… pas beaucoup d’expérience!!

Alors vous nous avez entendus. Qu’en avez-vous pensé? Pas pire? Il y a eu quelques fois ou j’aurai voulu reprendre mes mots… mais gros je penses que nous avons bien fait. Dave a été excellent. Je dois avouer que j’avais mes doutes. Nos sessions de pratique au bureau avant de partir,,, ben disons que nous étions ‘poche’. Oui je l’ai dis, on été vraiment pas bons… donc j’étais très nerveuse. Mais il semblerait que quand c’est un vrai match, les émotions prennent charge et on y va.

Comme vous avez certainement déjà entendu… une perte en prolongation aujourd'hui. Ceci veut donc dire que nous devons gagner demain!! Pardons… j’ai fait une faute de frappe... Nous ALLONS gagner demain!

Excellente partie. Un début un peu lent, deux buts rapide par la Finlande. Mais le Canada a répliqué!! Non seulement avec des buts mais aussi avec un jeu physique. Nous avons vraiment augmenté sur cet aspect de notre jeu. EXCELLENTmatch les filles! Demain c’est à nous.

Day 10 - And that concludes round-robin play

Canada – USA. The rivalry is evident. Game time 1pm today!

The Lanyski/Franski duo was early to get to the rink today. Obviously we had a quick stop at the Prisma on our way – the team wanted more bananas for the post-game snacks. Then we took a few minutes to post the gocanadago@ringette.ca messages. Keep ‘em coming the athletes are loving it!

It set the tone for the team’s arrival. Before they headed up for the team warm-up, a few athletes took the time to pose for some photos. Hagan on the zamboni! Petey, the Flash and Hagan posed for the official ‘best hair of the team’ photo. An athlete from Manitoba awarded them this title in one of the GoCanadaGo emails. They were pretty excited for this award. The team would also like to award an honourable mention to Jenna McBride. They feel she should also have been considered for this award. See Halloween photos. Here are the official results: 1^st place – Bobbi Mattson, 2^nd place – Ashley Peters, 3^rd place – Colleen Hagan, Honourable Mention – Jenna McBride

Now we are ready for the game! The Canadian duo, Nat Fortin and Kevin Lee, were assigned to the Canada USA game.

A very intense starts to this ‘canadian style’ game. The flow of the game was more similar to an NRL game than all the other games we have seen here so far this week. It was a great game, lots of shot, lots of big saves. Given the composition of these two teams we saw many teammates facing off against each other in this international competition. The Mission, the WAM! and the RATH all had athletes competing on both squads today.

After 30 minutes of play Canada was up by 6 (the score was 7-1). Pittaway was in net for Canada and stopped 24 of the 25 shots she faced. Mattson was in for the second half of the game.

Our half-time interview was with our attaché Suski today. She has been an amazing help to our team this week! Given that she is a native of Tampere, she can’t help but partially cheer for the Finns. But I think that we have done a good god of converting here to our side... Red mittens, Red scarf. She has assured us that she will be cheering for both teams. Fair enough.

The final score Canada 14, USA 4. Well done ladies! That wraps up Round Robin play!

Jour 10 - Et le tournoi à la ronde est terminé!

Canada vs États-Unis aujourdh'ui.

Le duo Lanski/Franski est arrivé tôt à l’aréna (encore une fois suite à un arrêt au Prisma!-besoin de bananes pour les athlètes) et nous avons affiché les messages gocanadago@ringette.ca de la journée. Événement très populaire parmi les athlètes. Il fallait naviguer la foule d’athlètes afin de pouvoir afficher les nouveau message. Continuer à les envoyer! Les athlètes l’apprécient grandement!

Quelques minutes avant le réchauffement d’équipe c’certaines athlètes on prit un moment pour ‘poser’ pour des photos. Hagan sur la zamboni et Hagan, The Flash et Petey pour une photo démarquant leur titre de meilleurs cheveux de l’équipe. Un titre leurs étant décerné par une jeune partisane du Manitoba dans un des courriels d’encouragement. 1^ère place Bobbi, 2^eplace Ashley, 3^e place Colleen. L’équipe tien à souligner les cheveux de Jenna McBride, surtout à l’halloween (celle de gauche). Donc une mention spéciale pour elle aussi!

Natalie Fortin et Kevin Lee étaient les arbitres pour la partie. Le duo canadien était au travail.

Un début un peut plus intense et un style de jeux beaucoup plus ‘canadien’. Une bonne partie, beaucoup de tirs au but. Étant donné la composition de l’équipe américaine ce fut un match ou on a vue des coéquipières s’affronter. Le Mission, le WAM! et le RATH on tous des athlètes dans les deux alignements.

Après 30 minutes de jeu (2 périodes) le pointage était de 7 à 1 pour le Canada. Meghan Pittaway a reçu 25 tirs a complété 24 arrêts.

Une entrevue avec Suski (Susanna) notre attaché pour la semaine a été tourné suite à le 2^e période. Suski (ou Suzie-Q comme l’appel Barb) nous a aidé énormément cette semaine, Un gros merci pour tout ton aide! Étant donnée sa nationalité finlandaise, il faut croire que dans son cœur elle prend pour eux… mais nous avons quand même réussit à la convertir. Elle porte un foulard rouge et des mitaines rouges avec une feuille d’érable blanche. Elle va surement compter pour les deux équipes lors de la finale :)

Le score final : Canada 14, États-Unis 4.

Day 9 - Oh so close...

So 2pm came around pretty quickly today. Lanski and I took a few moments to print more gocanadago@ringette.ca messages and we were off. We loaded up the Volvo and ventured off to find a lunch location on our way to the area.

Turns out it’s quite difficult to find a restaurant when you don’t really know what you are looking for. Back home you just hop in the car and you’ll see a couple BPs, Kelsey’s not to forget Tim Hortons along the way. You don’t have to have anything specific in mind, something will just pop up. Without a clue as to what the popular restaurants are here we saw nothing. So back to Prisma it was... this is turning out to be a daily activity. They had a little café, we grabbed a bite to eat and then picked up a few snack foods and headed to the rink.

Our time calculation was a little off because we arrived just as the national anthems of the USA-SWE game were playing. Lanski was quick to set up and get cracking on the live stats for that game. Look at her go with the live updates on the non-CAN games. She is a star!

While she conveyed to the rest of the world what was going on in the game Dave (RC Executive Director) and I took the time to practice the play by play and color commentary on the game. We will not be as clever or witty as Jay Onrait was during Olympic mornings. But we will do our best to call the game for all of you at home. I will try to pull out a few Pierre McGuire comments (love him or hate him). If we sound awful you can just turn down the volume I guess. But then you’ll miss my exciting ‘Et le but!!!’ calls. It will be your loss in the end. LOL

The USA – Sweden game ended 22-0. USA took an early lead and never looked back. Here is the game summary.

Canada and Finland were up next. With the nerves now out of the way thanks to the exhibition game and day one of competition Canada was ready to go!

A few Finnish players stepped out onto the ice to start the warm up. Wearing white I thought to myself that Canada will wear RED again this game... no but wait they all take the ice and they too are wearing white! Slight miscommunication? I think so. This was all rectified and the Finns changed to blue. Point of interest – their pant and jerseys don’t really match, it’s not the same blue at all. Completely irrelevant I know, but I am here to report what I see. And I saw that. :)

OK enough about fashion, get back to the game Franski!

After the warm-up I made my way over to the fan section to get a good video of the pre-game ‘show’ they put on. But given that the lights stay low for the entire player presentation it didn’t turn out. But I did get a video of the anthem, a few fans and the first couple minutes of the game. I JUST missed the goal, turned off the camera a couple seconds too soon.

Exciting game! Lots of shots, big saves and amazing plays. Couple minutes in it was 1-0 Canada! Then it kind of went something like this 1-1, 1-2, 2-2, 3-2, 4-2, 4-3, 4-4. Tied after 2.

We got an interview with Canadian official Steve Blacklock who has travelled to Finland for the event.

15 minutes of Zamboni time and we are back at it. 4-5, 5-5, 6-5, 6-6,7-6, 8-6, 8-7, 8-8. Only 5 seconds left… Goal! #18 FIN Salla Kyhälä. Finland wins. You might recognize that name as Salla played 2 seasons in the NRL with the Saskatoon Wild. She was also named league MVP in 2009.

The loss stings a little. It was such a captivating game, filled with emotions. I’m sure you could sense that even via Twitter and Facebook! Yeah we lost on the scoreboard, but there is a lot of positive that can be taken away from this. As Petey posted on Facebook ‘now we know exactly what we need to do to beat them’. We scored 8 goals against them, 5 different goal scorers, 8 contributed with assists. We dominated the play for the majority of the game. Lots of positives. Conquering Gold won’t be an easy task, but the team proved tonight that it is definitely within their reach. As our president said on Sunday, the Sam Jack trophy is coming back to Canada. We already bought its plane ticket! Just sayin’.

Jour 9 - 5 secondes!... Mais on tourne la médaille.

Tel que promis hier, le blogue français est complété en premier!

Et voilà il est 14h00… déjà! On prend quelques minutes pour imprimer des messages de nos partisans du Canada et on fait la file vers l’auto.

En route vers l’aréna, nous étions à la recherche d’une place pour dîner. Seule problème nous ne savons pas ce que nous cherchons. Au Canada, on n’a qu’à prendre la route et on va voir un restaurant (probablement une chaîne) et nous n’avons qu’à arrêter. Mais ici, on ne connaît pas les restos. Donc, le Prisma (semblerait que c’est une destination quotidienne pour nous) fut la destination de choix. Il y avait un petit resto à l’intérieur.

Nous avons prit quelques minutes pour ramasser quelques collations. À 15h15 nous avons réalisé que nous avions 15 minutes avant le début de la partie USA vs Suède. Donc nous nous dirigé vers la caisse, payé rapidement et prit la route vers l’aréna. Nous avons franchit les porte comme les hymnes nationales débutaient.

Ouf, on est arrivé à temps. Laynski à fait les mises à jour en temps réelle pour la partie sur notre site et Dave et moi ont pratiqué pour la webdiffusion.

Et bien oui vous avez bien déduit, c’est moi et Dave qui font la description du match. Analyste = moi et le descripteur = Dave. Oyoyoye!, je me demande quelle sera mon patois?

La partie USA vs Suède c’est terminé avec un score de 22-0. Voici le sommaire du match.

Ensuite ce fut au tour d’Équipe Canada! Elles affrontaient la Finlande. Suite à la partie hors-concours qui a eu lieu il y a quelques jours l’anticipation pour ce match était élevée. Je remarque quelque athlète de la Finlande sur la patinoire, ceci signale le début du réchauffement. Je commence alors à préparer la caméra etc… et je remarque ensuite qu’Équipe Canada est maintenant sur la patinoire mais, portent elles aussi leurs chandails blancs. Petit manque de communication? Je crois que oui… ou est-ce un autre chose?

Je me dirige ensuite vers la section des partisans pour voir les présentations d’avant-match. Tel que promis hier, je voulais partager le ‘show’ avec vous. Mais étant donné que les lumières étaient baisser, je n’ai pas pu avoir un clip de qualité. Par contre je suis en mesure de partager un vidéo qui inclus l’hymne national, nos partisans et les premières minutes de jeu. J’ai juste manque le premier but!!

Ce fut une partie très intense mais à la fois excitante! Plusieurs tirs au but, plusieurs arrêts spectaculaires. 1-0 Canada!, 1-1, 1-2, 2-2, 3-2, 4-2, 4-3, 4-4. Deux périodes de complétées.

Nous avons eu la chance d’interviewer Steve Blacklock entre les deux périodes.

15 minutes de Zamboni et nous sommes de retour à la partie 4-5, 5-5, 6-5, 6-6,7-6, 8-6, 8-7, 8-8. Il reste 5 secondes… et le but! par Salla Kyhälä. Victoire Finlande. Vous reconnaissez peut être ce nom... Salla a fait partie du Wild de Saskatoon de la LNR pour deux saisons et a même été nommée athlète de l’année en 2009.

Sa brise le cœur un peu. Ce fut un match très captivant et rempli d’émotions. Oui c’est une défaite quand on regarde le score. Au pointage nous avons perdu. Mais il y a toujours deux côté à la médaille (Celle en or que nous allons remporter dans quelques jours). Nous avons compté 8 buts contre la Finlande, 5 différentes joueuses on marquées des buts et 8 on contribuées avec des assistes. Nous avons dominé le jeu pour la majorité de la partie. Il y avait cohésion entre les trios… beaucoup de positif. La série pour la médaille d’or sera à ne pas manquer. La conquête de la médaille d’or ne sera pas facile, mais notre équipe nous a prouvé aujourd’hui que c’est à une portée de main. GO Canada GO!

Finally I have webcast details to share!!!

As you already knew the gold medal series will be webcast live.
November 4^th @ 6:30pm EET (that’s Finland time, which means 12:30pm in Ottawa)
November 5^th @ 6:30pm EET
November 6^th @ 2:30pm EET (If game 3 is needed)

Here is the link to where you can watch the game. Right now you can hear people talking in Finnish, which is normal. But not to worry the game play by play and color commentary will be in English when the games are webcast.

The host organising committee has also set up a live stream site. From what I could gather yesterday, they will be posting all games on this site. These games will NOT be live, but you will be able to see them within about a 24h delay. There will be no commentary on these clips. But nonetheless you can see all the action.

Here is the site. Currently they have the 2010 WRC YouTube clip and the 2007 Gold Medal Game Final. More to come soon... I think.

Voici le lien pour regarder les parties. À l’instant même on peut entendre des voix qui parlent finlandais. Ceci est normal. Mais lors des parties les commentateurs parleront en anglais. Étant donné que l’événement se déroule en Finlande l’autre diffusion se fera en Finlandais et nous pouvons seulement le faire en deux langues pour l’instant. Par contre, certain commentaires lors du match seront porté en français.

Le comité organisateur a un site ou il sera possible de voir toutes le parties, mais en délai. Donc genre 24heures après. D’ailleurs c’est ce que j’ai pu comprendre hier. À vous d’aller voir. Il n’y aura pas de commentateurs, c’est simplement les parties. Présentement il n’y a que deux clips : la finale de 2007 et le vidéo de promotion de l’événement.

Jour 8 - Un but, deux buts... trente buts.

Désolé, la version française sera plus courte ce soir. Mais je promets de faire le blogue français en premier demain. À l’heure qu’il est rendu ici, mon cerveau n’est pas du tout en mode traduction. Merci à l’avance de votre compréhension.

La cérémonie d’ouverture était ce matin. Bref il y a eu 3 minutes de discours et c’était terminé. Sérieux! Voici la photo d’équipe Canada à la cérémonie.

Nous avons ensuite eu la chance de visiter le marché locale qui a lieu à tous le premier lundi du mois. Lyndsay en a convaincu quelques uns d’essayer du hareng. Il ne faut se fier aux apparences, car le goût était quand même pas si pire.

Suite à nos aventures dans le marché, nous avons prix la route vers l’aréna.

Day 8 - Goals, Goals and more Goals!

Short and sweet. The opening ceremony which took place at City Hall was so short that if you blinked you may have missed it all! The speeches went by so fast they almost forgot the oaths! After less than 3 minutes of official delegates speaking, athlete and official oaths were read and then it was time to mingle.

Slightly awkward one must say, but Canada got things rolling with the picture taking which lead to teams chatting and getting to know each other. A variety of photos were taken. Team photos, NRL teammate photos, Canada Winter Games team member photos lead to athletes from various teams at this event to come together. Brief entertainment was also provided. A few athletes even discreetly (given that they were wearing the same outfit as them) found their way into other team’s photos.

Once the event wrapped up, we took a few minutes to walk around the local market that was set up just outside City Hall. The first Monday of every month the vendors set up to sell a variety of items.

Lyndsay convinced a few of us to try the Herring. It was pretty good. Better than I thought it would be. We then loaded up the bus to head back to the hotel. But about a block from our destination we realized we forgot Jane (RC President) at the market! Oops. It is not very far from the hotel so we figured she would find her way back.

Upon arrival in my room I had a message from one of the officials letting us know that Jane was with them and that they would be back soon. I was to let her husband know that that was the case. But as I sat in my room and got an early start on writing this blog I have just realized that I have not conveyed the message to her husband, and we have been back for some time now. Double Oops. Can I still blame these things on jetlag? Even after 8 days here?

Then it was free time for a couple of hours. Laynski and I thought we could get in a little bit of shopping. We are both looking for gifts for people back home, so we thought we’d go with the popular souvenir items. Again we turned to our trusty Google and the first response we got to our search for ‘popular Finnish souvenirs’ was ‘any conceivable part of a reindeer’. We are not really sure how to take this.

3 hours until GAME TIME! Had to make a quick stop at Prima (kind of like Wal Mart, but on steroids). Had to pick up a few things for the team. Turns out buying Tylenol and Advil in a different language is not an easy task! We came back with one of the two... Advil I think.

Contrary to our Finnish communication skills, I must say we are getting pretty good at navigating around in this town. We got to the rink with plenty of time to set (and post more of the emails you have sent to the team).

The second half of the USA-Finland game was starting when we got there. Their new team jerseys looked really good! I’m glad to see they got them in time, last I heard at the opening was that they were still stuck in Tulli! (I was just looking for a way to use that word for real in a sentence)

The final score of that game was 13-0 for Finland.

Now it was time for the Canada-Sweden game. We had the live twitter and stats sites ready to go. I was also able to post a couple videos during and after the game. The live stats and Tweets turned out to be quite difficult at time. As the final score of the game was 30-0 for Canada, we had a lot of goals to enter. At first it wasn’t so bad, but then we started scoring back to back goals that were only 15 seconds apart! I am not complaining, I’m glad our girls can score it just made it tricky to keep you all up to date at times.

Great job to the host on the game presentation! Player introductions, fan interaction, announcers... and I hear they are adding things every day. I can only imagine how awesome it will be on the last day! My only comment would be on the song that plays every time a goal was scored. It’s a great idea, but when it’s the same song every time AND there are 30 goals scored in the game it can get quite repetitive. Mixing it up a little might not be a bad thing.

A quick note on our officials! Natalie Fortin (Limoges, ON) and Kevin Lee (Mississauga, ON) are the Canadian officials at this event. Kevin got the FIN-USA game with Veera Lempiäinen, while Nat got the CAN-SWE game with Katriina Keskitalo. Stephan Blackman (DDO) is the Director of Officials for the event.

Day 7 - Changing: Time, Name and Persona

Adjusting to travelling across many time zones can sometimes be a challenge. Throw in a day light savings time change in there and it definitely complicates things. At 4am this morning was the official ‘turn back the clock one hour time’ here in Finland.

Before Alayne and I headed to bed we made sure to change the times and set our alarm clocks as we had to be ready for the 10am press conference. Fast forward through the night and we woke up to our alarms and took our time getting ready. Trying to figure out how much time I had before we had to go down from breakfast I enquired what time it was. We checked our phone and it said 9:55. Ummm but the press conference is at 10. Maybe the clocks on our phones are wrong?

So to confirm the situation, we turned to google. And I kid you not we googled: ‘what time is it in Finland?’. Answer: 9:56. OK! we have 4 minutes to get down there. Lucky for us it was here at the hotel. Alayne got there with 2 minutes to spare. All is good.

The press conference was pretty standard. Lyndsay (Head coach) Keely (#1) and Jackie (#18) along with 3 Finnish athletes were part of the panel. You can see the press release here.

Not really sure why but the Finnish coaches were there, just not at the front. Also it was strange not to understand the responses from the Finnish team. Good thing Tracey was on her game and recorded the whole press conference. With the help of our team attaché (hostess) Suski we were able to watch the video and get full translation. Turns out that my assumption that their answer to the question ‘What is your goal for the week’ was not Silver... my translation was a little off there. Oops.

Side note: Nicknames are big here in Finland (ie our attaché’s name is actually Susanna) and Alayne and I were feeling a little left out. We are not sure if there is an official protocol on how one can get an official nickname, but we will now be known at Franski and Laynski. We are looking into what procedures are required to register these as official Finnish nicknames. I should google that right now.

Then we were off to the rink (or Ice Hall as they call it here). Sometimes with the accent and broken English ice hall sounds like something else. One of our officials had a little struggle with that today I hear.

Got a feel for the rink, got the dressing room all set up. Athlete posters, Team Canada banners and posted up the messages we have received so far on the gocanadago@ringette.ca email. (Keep ‘em coming!) We’ve made the place our own! We are ready to go.

Our interactions with the local organizing committee have been great so far! The only down side is the blue jackets. Canada red would have been much better!! To quote Masa (Ringette Finland’s TD) ‘They all look like Smurfs!’. Thats not from me, I’m just quoting here.

After practice I was introduced to the Team Canada Glee Club! Barb (#21), Colleen (#19), Andrea (#14) and Ashley (#87)... They have a rallying code and everything. I will post a clip of them in my next recap video. Stay tuned.

Turns out its Halloween today! You are never too old to dress up in a costume and take on a new persona... and Team Canada proved that tonight!

Given the festivities, the athletes saw this as an opportunity to dress up! The group consisted of John and Kate plus 8 followed by paparazzi , Wizard of Oz characters, the Paper Bag Princess, a blind ref, a Youtube Star, Woody from Toy Story, a fat cook, a roman, a basketball team, a monkey, a cat, a beaver, and an attractive couple!(we are not really sure who the guy is. If anybody can identify him for us that would be great)

We joined (in our costumes) family and friends who have made the trip over to cheer us on during the event for a dinner at the Plevna restaurant. Each athlete took a moment to introduce their friends and family to the group, even those who have not yet arrived. Lyndsay addressed ‘her family for the week’ and thanked them for the time and energy they have all put into this program; for their courage and heart. Jane Cason (RC President) kept it short and sweet: ‘We are taking the Sam Jacks trophy back to Canada. That’s where it belongs’.

It was great to see everybody and get into the spirit of the event. A few Go Canada Go chants were rehearsed. We are good to go now. We posted some photos of the dinner on Flikr as well.

Jour 7 - On change l'heure, de nom et de personnage!

S'adapter à un voyage qui consiste à traverser plusieurs fuseaux horaires c’est un défi. Ajoutez à cela la journée à laquelle on doit reculer l’heure et ça complique certainement les choses. À quatre heures ce matin était l’heure officiel à laquelle nous devions reculer l’heure ic en Finlande.

Donc avant de se coucher hier Alayne et moi avons ajuster l’heure de tous nos appareils pour s’assurer de ne pas manque la conférence de presse qui avait lieu à 10h aujourd’hui. Passons maintenant à ce matin. Nous nous sommes réveillés à nos alarmes et pris notre temps pour se prépare. Afin de savoir combien de temps il me restait pour me préparer j’ai demandé à Alayne quel heure il était. La réponse 9h55 !?! Pour vrai ?! Vérifions alors avec google.. et oui nous avons demander à google ‘quel heure est-il présentement en Finlande ?’. Et oui nous avions la bonne heure… qui veut alors dire que nous avons 4 minutes pour se rendre à la conférence. Bonne chance que celle-ci était à notre hôtel.

Conférence très typique. Lyndsay (Entraineur), Keely (#1) et Jackie(#18) ainsi que 3 athlètes de la Finlande y étaient pour répondre à des questions. De plus les entraineurs finlandais y étaient, mais pas à l’avant de la salle. Pourquoi ? Je ne sais pas. Voici le communiqué officiel de la conférence de presse.

C’était quand même spéciale de ne pas comprendre les réponses de l’autre équipe. Heureusement que Tracey était rapide et elle a filmé toute la conférence. Ensuite notre attaché, Suski, nous a aidé avec les traduction. Elle était vraiment géniale. Merci ! Il semblrait que ma compréhension de leur réponse à la question ‘quels sont vos buts pour la semaine’ n’était pas la bonne. Je pensais qu’elles avaient répondu la médaille d’argent. Et bien.

Note: Les pseudonymes sont populaires ici en Finlande (à savoir le nom de notre attaché est en fait Susanna) et Alayne et moi on se sentait un peu laissés de côté. Nous ne savons pas s'il existe un protocole officiel sur la façon dont on peut obtenir un pseudonymes officiel, mais nos nouveaux noms sont maintenant Franski et Laynski. Nous étudions quelles sont les procédures nécessaires pour enregistrer ces surnoms comme étant officiel en Finlande.

Nous avons visité l’aréna, décoré le vestiaire de l’équipe, afficher vos courriels à l’équipe, des affiches et des bannière. Nous en avons fait un zone CANADA ! C’est comme être chez nous. Nous sommes prêtes.

Le comité organisateur est excellent. Seule reproche à leur faire, leur manteaux bleus aurait été beaucoup mieux s’il avait été rouge… On aime mieux le rouge ! Comme l’a indique le directeur technique finlandais, ils on l’aire des Schtroumpfs!.

Après la pratique j'ai été présenté au Glee club d'Équipe Canada! Barb (# 21), Colleen (# 19), Andrea (# 14) et Ashley (# 87) ... Ils ont un code de ralliement et tout. Je vais afficher un clip d' eux dans mon prochain vidéo récapitulatif. Restez à l'écoute.

Nous avons rejoint (dans nos costumes) la famille et les amis qui ont fait le déplacement pour nous encourager lors de l'événement pour un souper au restaurant Plevna. Chaque athlète a pris un moment pour présenter leurs amis et leur famille au groupe, même ceux qui ne sont pas encore arrivés. Lyndsay a adressée ‘sa famille pour la semaine’ et les a remerciés pour le temps et l'énergie qu'elles ont tous mis dans ce programme, pour leur courage et leur cœur. Jane Cason (présidente RC) a gardé court et simple: ‘Le trophée Sam Jacks retourne au Canada.’
C'était génial de voir tout le monde et entrer dans l'esprit de l'événement. A quelques chants Go Canada Go on été récités. Nous avons affiché quelques photos du souper sur Flickr.
