Define tiering. Do it. I dare you!
Consider this conversation… it may sound familiar.
“Do you tier in Novice?”
“No we don’t”
“Are you sure?”
“Yes I am. We don’t have Novice A, B and C”
“So all of the Novice teams in your provinces can attend the same tournaments?”
“Well, all but one tournament.”
“Really, which one is that?”
“We have an Super Elite Novice tournament at the end of the season where the best from each association come together to compete in this tournament.”
“Super Elite hey? Sounds like something you’d hear during the pre-boarding announcement of an Air Canada flight.”
The question that comes out of all of this is… What defines a tier?
MON SPORT. MA PASSION.

Lets start with the petite division. There is a little debate in Saskatchewan about the Petite A division. We have a B division and are seriously looking at no Petite A teams. We do not have provincials for teams in Saskatchewan till Tweens. So why do it. Some people feel that you get better coaching if you are on a Petite A team. Some of these coaches, coach to win at all costs. They yell and scream at players and officials. They bench players for making mistakes. Use all types of punishments at practice for poor performance. They play only their best players at tournaments. All in the name of winning. This is with 10 and 11 year olds. Just a question but if you saw some of these tactics at a neighbors house would you think it was a form of child abuse?
